@Middalia, Good luck! You have plenty of time to train. Please feel free to share updates about your progress. What run are you doing?

@crossn81 Will check out your log, thanks for the link. I agree that halfs are a great starting point. I just read about waiting 3 weeks to really run again, seems reasonable but also hard! :)

My first run was a week afterwards and it was an easy 5k on dirt trails. I slowly upped my mileage and did an 8k XC race a month later. My longest run in October (except for the marathon) was 8 miles 3 weeks later. But if I didn't feel like running - then I didn't do it! You can see my log here. Just go to October 2008 and you can see my post marathon training. I'm looking at a fall marathon again this year - maybe Twin Cities again. I liked having a spring half-marathon to build up the base for training.

Congratulations! Sounds like you had a great race and a great time. My first is not until November, and I hope my experience will be as positive as yours. :)

Thanks for sharing! Getting a massage is definitely on my list of things I'd like to get done this week. When you started running again after the rest weeks what sort of mileage did you put in and how long until you did a long run (10 miles or so)? And is there marathon #2 on your schedule?

Congratulations!! That is exciting and it sounds like you did pretty well for the first one. My first one was just this past October and it really hurt around mile 20 and the last 6.2 was one slow 10k! But I agree the crowd support made it easier to trudge onwards. It was a week or 2 before I started running again and a massage on Monday morning (Sunday race) felt so wonderful and helped with the walking normal part!

Welcome to the elite club of marathoners!
