Nora, get new shoes!! Keep your old pair for yard work. Ritual or not, you deserve shoes that will carry you safely and comfortably through many more miles. You can come up with a whole new routine for your new shoes. :)

I know this is an old post but I thought it was funny to find this. I was just wondering if I was strange for my running rituals. I do most of those things, like drinking water and going to the bathroom, but I also have to have my hair completely out of my face, I have to put chap stick on right before (I feel like it helps my breathing for some reason) :), and I actually listen to the same song for the first 3 or 4 miles. I generally only do 5 miles but that last mile I let myself listen to other music. Not sure why I do this but I do. I also have fallen in a bad routine because my shoes now have small holes in the toes but I am really reluctant to get new shoes. I just really don't like breaking in new shoes. :) Glad to know I'm not the only one with rituals!
